We Obtained Like Precious Faith
2 Peter 1:1-12 = “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:”
God has blessed us completely to live according to His will and desire. He has not only given us eternal life but also abundant life. Every believer must realize and claim this wonderful truth to have joy.
The Apostle Peter explains why we can be strong and victorious in this life. In Christ, and with all the gifts and blessings we receive, we can taste heaven on earth.
1.In verses 1-4, he reminds us of everything God has provided us to be complete.
2.In verses 5-12, he encourages us to diligently enjoy all His blessings to remain strong in the Lord.
Today, we will begin with the first gift, which is the gift of FAITH.
From the beginning of time, God’s grace has allowed man to live and enjoy His beautiful creation. His act of creation and His sovereign grace provide humanity for God’s people to live forever.
To live a godly, sinless life, God has created man in His image, and through Adam and Eve, He gives us the gift of faith, enabling us to live according to the will of God. For this reason, we can be strong and victorious. For without the faith of the Son of God, man is unable to live the life God expects.
When sin enters, man’s will is tested. Instead of living by the faith of God, they begin to entertain and accept another perspective, contrary and not according to the faith God gives them. They consider and listen to another gospel from the serpent. They want more instead of being satisfied with what God has given them. This results in spiritual death, resulting in physical death, and the danger of eternal death.
However, God’s love has not abandoned His people, despite man’s attempt to cover their sins when they try to cover and hide their nakedness. Because of God’s love, God did something marvelous. He offers grace through faith when God pronounces His plan of sending the Messiah. Adam and Eve believe in God’s promise by looking forward to the cross. By faith, they obey God’s commandment of offering blood sacrifice.
The first gift of grace that God gives man is the precious faith in Christ. It is through the faith of Christ that man understands his need for salvation. The motivation for this precious gift is the grace of God, expressed through His perfect and pure love.
This precious faith is obtained or received by anyone freely. It is not attained or earned. It is given unconditionally based on God’s sovereign grace - that comes from hearing the Word of God. (Romans 10:17).
The FAITH of the Lord Jesus Christ begins the incredible journey of every child of God. With this faith is the power of God, capable of living the Christian life. This faith allows God’s children to overcome and face all difficulties victoriously. This faith gives every believer the desire to obey and the commitment to serve God. This faith will endure to the end.
The work of faith is not our work. It is the work of Christ in and through us. It manifests when we live and serve according to the will of the Father, the power of the Holy Spirit, and the faith of the Son of God.
Its presence is always in us because of the Triune God; therefore, it must be constantly shown in our life and service.
Conclusion:
Apostle Peter reminds us of everything God has given us. And He gave us all, and It begins with Faith. Praise God for this incredible gift of faith.
Jesus is the door, and faith is the key that opens the door. What a blessing! It is faith that pleases God and enables us to do the impossible. It can move mountains. With the power of the faith of Christ, nothing is impossible through us.
